Stephanie E. Thompson

Associate

“Practicing health care law allows me to not only serve my clients’ interests but also those of the patients they care for. As someone who cares deeply about policy and making an impact, that is a true privilege.”

With a deep professional and academic background in health care, diverse litigation experience, and dedication to her work, Stephanie Thompson brings her skilled advocacy to a wide range of disputes and investigations involving managed care, reimbursement, and other matters. Her fluency in the scientific and technical language of medicine gives Stephanie and her clients distinct competitive advantages, allowing her to work seamlessly with experts and craft effective arguments that bring clarity to complexity.

Stephanie’s immersive involvement in health care predates her legal career and formed the foundation for her success as a lawyer. After completing her undergraduate degree in biology at Amherst College, Stephanie earned an advanced degree in bioethics while working in clinical research at Columbia University Medical Center. Through her position, she gained valuable, first-hand insights into the substantive work often implicated in the legal matters she handles.

While earning her law degree on a merit scholarship, Stephanie complemented her clinical background by working as a research assistant studying the intersection of policy and law in medicine, and externing for a Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court of Southern Illinois. After completing her law degree, she gained valuable behind the bench experience as a federal law clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge Robert A. Molloy of the District Court of the United States Virgin Islands. While serving in this role, Stephanie juggled multiple responsibilities in one of the busiest dockets in the country, learning how and why judges make decisions and honing her ability to be efficient and agile in her work.

Stephanie joined Hooper, Lundy & Bookman after further developing her advocacy skills and health care law experience as an associate advocating for health care providers in litigation, arbitration, and mediation proceedings, where she handled all phases of disputes, including developing case strategy, drafting motions, preparing appeals, and managing discovery. She also advised clients on managed care disputes, reimbursement matters, and government investigations, oversaw coding audits of medical records, responded to government inquiries, and developed proactive risk management strategies.
