Bryan Gustafson

“I became a health care lawyer because I want to help make the law a facilitator of care for providers and patients, not an impediment.”
Bryan Gustafson is an attorney whose academic and professional endeavors have formed a solid foundation for his health care law practice at HLB.
Bryan’s approach to his work is grounded in the research and analytical work he has done on alternative payment and care models, quality of care, and community health. Prior to embarking on his legal career, Bryan made health care the focus of his studies, earning both an undergraduate and master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University and Dartmouth College, respectively.
Bryan complemented his academic efforts with research experience and internships that expanded and deepened his understanding of the key drivers that can either enhance and expand the delivery of care or make matters more challenging and less efficient for providers and those they serve. This includes three years working as a healthcare analyst for NORC at the University of Chicago, where Bryan gained significant experience investigating and writing on federal models of care, alternative payment, emergent health information technology, and the social determinants of health. His dedication to research continued into law school, where he served as Senior Editor on the Boston College Law Review. While in law school, he also gained in-house experience as a legal intern at an integrated health plan where he supported the legal department on regulatory questions, writing briefs on emergent models of care, editing network contracts, and assisting with privacy matters.
Bryan’s background brings a strong understanding of health care issues and diligent research skills to effectively serve clients. His practice carries forward his commitment to assist and advocate for providers in their mission to provide quality care to all.
