Barri T. Dean
“As a registered nurse, a commitment to excellence in caring for my patients was non-negotiable. It is no different as a litigator, where my clients deserve nothing less than the best possible representation.”
Seeing complex, high-stakes health care litigation through the eyes of a courtroom advocate, Barri Dean understands what it takes to obtain favorable outcomes when confronted by potentially catastrophic claims or investigations that imperil her clients’ operational, financial, and reputational interests. But Barri’s effectiveness is not simply a product of her legal acumen. As a registered nurse and medical education coordinator, Barri also brings first-hand provider-side perspectives and insights to her work, allowing her to develop case approaches and arguments informed by the on-the-ground realities of both the business and practice of medicine.
With broad experience managing every phase of the litigation and investigation lifecycles, Barri focuses her practice on complex fraud and abuse, False Claims Act, Stark Law, and anti-kickback statute matters. As an associate at a leading global law firm, she developed an impressive record squaring off against the federal government, crafting well-strategized defenses for her clients. Later, as an Assistant United States Attorney, Barri gained invaluable insight into how the government builds its cases, allowing her to see the playing field from every angle. Always prepared and with a measured approach, she instills calm and confidence in her clients as she shepherds them through the stress and disruption of litigation and government inquiries.
The commitment, focus, and hard work needed for success as a litigator is second nature for Barri. She put in long hours as a nurse throughout law school, earning her law degree both early and cum laude. While carrying a full caseload, she obtained her LL.M. in trial advocacy, further enhancing her advocacy skills and making her even more formidable as a litigator.
Barri is as committed to her community and peers as she is to her clients. She is actively involved in several pro bono and philanthropic endeavors while investing substantial time and effort in mentoring newer attorneys and helping them grow professionally and personally.
