Dustin Grant
“Every attorney’s work matters, and every case they handle is important, but the profound and widely felt impacts of health care law make practicing in this area particularly meaningful.”
As an experienced litigator who has handled a broad spectrum of complex matters, Dustin Grant understands that the practical realities and unwritten rules of complex litigation can play as much of a role in case strategies and outcomes as black-letter law. With behind-the-bench insights complementing his persuasive advocacy, Dustin can deftly develop creative, effective approaches that move the needle in his clients’ direction and lead to favorable resolutions of even the most intractable disputes.
Dustin’s health care litigation practice at Hooper Lundy & Bookman is built on a foundation of extensive involvement in cases spanning from insurance coverage litigation to white collar criminal defense to employment claims. From intake through trial and appeal, every stage in the litigation lifecycle is familiar territory for Dustin, contributing to his adeptness at efficient case management and his ability to chart a forward-looking course that considers every angle and anticipates all possibilities. He has amassed an impressive record of results in federal and state courts, particularly on dispositive motions and when seeking injunctive relief. In addition to his courtroom acumen, Dustin is also a Certified Information Privacy Professional – United States (CIPP/US), which facilitates his effectiveness in matters involving electronic health records and data privacy and security.
Working as a clerk for a judge in the Commercial Division of the New York County Supreme Court, arguably the nation’s most preeminent forum for high-dollar, sophisticated business litigation, Dustin gained an appreciation for how judges and their staff approach, manage, and decide complex matters. The insights he gained while overseeing a large docket, leading status conferences, and resolving discovery and other pre-trial disputes have informed his approach as an advocate and enhanced his ability to craft arguments and strategies most likely to resonate and persuade.
In addition to his skills as a litigator, Dustin has a passion for health care law that is grounded in his personal experience. Having to put his practice on pause to serve as a full-time caregiver to an immediate family member, he saw firsthand how many aspects of a patient’s journey and the delivery of health care intersect with the law, and how the law can either impede or improve them. Dustin’s work at HLB is driven by his sincere desire to help providers and patients alike obtain better care and outcomes.
