HLB recruits from top law schools across the U.S., and we look for well–rounded students who demonstrate academic excellence. Given what we do, those with an established interest in health care law or prior employment in the health care field tend to catch our attention, but we consider impressive candidates from all backgrounds. We also weigh leadership and participation in extracurricular activities focused on professional development, such as a health law society or similar organization, law review, internships, clerkships, and on- and off-campus work experience. Our Recruiting Committee of partners and associates is primarily responsible for hiring new law school graduates and Summer Associate Program participants. Applicants generally will be interviewed by members of the committee, as well as by other lawyers of the firm. HLB’s Summer Associate Program attracts high-caliber legal talent with the intent of developing long-term relationships with those students after graduation. The program gives participants broad exposure to the firm and our health care practice with opportunities for legal research and writing, attendance at hearings and proceedings, and other projects and activities. HLB is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the firm, including our hiring practices. We have adopted the Mansfield Rule for attorney recruiting and actively seek to further enrich our workplace with people across genders, races, ethnicities, religions, disabilities, and sexual orientations. Many HLB attorneys and government relations professionals have spent their entire careers here, but others joined after gaining valuable experience in the government or with other law or lobbying firms. Experience generally takes precedence over academic performance with lateral hires, but we do consider educational achievement, professional activities, and transportable business. HLB owes its success to people throughout the firm, including those who contribute as paralegals and legal administrative assistants, and in finance and accounting, marketing and business development, information technology, and other critical roles. We offer competitive salaries and benefits packages, and like our attorneys and government relations professionals, there are opportunities for growth and advancement.Careers
